Art Jones, JSP Memorial (Medium: Carved, stained and painted wood with found objects)

This artwork was intended to be a memorial for James Smith Pierce (1930-2010), who was an artist, art historian, and collector of self-taught art. The small carved head with wire glasses, made in the mid 1980s as a portrait of Pierce, was inserted into a found painted wooden box, along with other objects (such as double circular openings) that make reference to motifs often seen in his art.
